Sant Eilian was sent to Anglesey as a missionary. The Prince of Gwynedd stole Eilian's cattle and in retaliation, Eilian struck the prince blind. The prince showed some remorse and in return for his sight, would give Eilian the amount of land that his deer could cover before being brought down by the prince's greyhounds.

Eilian restored the prince's sight and released his deer who sped across the fields. The greyhounds kept chase but the deer was able to leap across a large gorge. This resulted in Eilian gaining a large amount of land and he became known as a healer of eye ailments. The gorge near Amlwch is still known in Welsh as 'Llam Carw' (Deer's Leap).

Proud of our roots, Bragdy Mona is on a mission to share a small piece of Welsh heritage, language and history with the world, all of which have an influence our fantastic beers.

This is the ‘brain child’ of our Head Brewer, Huw Jones, who after years of home brewing, wanted to give others the opportunity to enjoy his recipes. So after a few late nights of ‘sampling’ and planning, during 2018, Huw and 6 others decided to take the plunge and form a Micro-Brewery. Joining Huw as Directors are his brother Rhys Jones and friends Gwyn Anwyl, Tom Williams, Rhys Evans, Meurig Jones and Sion Edwards. Whilst each bring their own skills and experiences to the business, all share a common passion for brewing and beer.

Our brewery is based in Gaerwen.
