SPANISH CASTLES

Spanish Castles is the latest vehicle for James Summerfield, one of the UK’s most talented singer-songwriters, playing eclectic-guitar driven Americana. James’s beautifully crafted, tender ballads and heartfelt melodies are given greater depth and texture with the support of his new band.

MOJO - “Sutton Coldfield is not best known for its lonely prairies, but they’re beautifully evoked here”.
UNCUT - “Paced like Gillian Welch at her Bible-black best”
THE SCOTSMAN - “One of the finest exponents of moss hung backwoods Americana you'll find in the UK”.

James began his musical career in alt-country bands Buick 6 / The Toques, who recorded two Peel Sessions for Radio 1. Since going solo, James has released seven studio albums to much acclaim. He has played with the likes of Alistair Roberts, Richmond Fontaine, John Renbourn, Scott Matthews and Joanna Newsom, and has collaborated with artists as diverse as Rankin’ Roger (The Beat), The Destroyers, poet Darren Cannan and bestselling authors Cathrine O’Flynn and Mike Gayle.

THE HORSE LOOM

Northumbrian guitarist and singer Steve Malley swings by Stori on his latest UK tour! Where to start to describe The Horse Loom? The best acoustic guitar player in the country? Maybe. The most unique marriage between British folk music, avant-garde guitar playing and punk rock spirit? Certainly. Wonderful? Definitely. Under-rated? You’ll have to ask him about that. Steve would doubtless be extremely embarrassed to read any of these things. That says a lot.

THE WIRE - "Northumberland's best kept secret. Acoustic songs that interweave his surprisingly tender vocals with his truly incredible guitar style that recalls Davy Graham or Bert Jansch at their finest".

Having cut his teeth in hardcore outfit Crane, one of the UK’s finest live bands, Steve went on to play in Kodiak, Four Frame and his current trio, the explosive, experimental Unit Ama. The Horse Loom sees Steve take this approach and apply it to his love of folk music. Combining folk structures and melodies with his incredible guitar playing has made The Horse Loom something truly unique.
