Cader Ales was set up Cader Ales in Dolgellau in the summer of 2012, on a small scale, brewing between 5 and 10 nine gallon casks a week. After trial brews and feedback from local ale drinkers we developed two ales: Idris Bitter, a soft traditional bitter and Cader Gold, a light hoppy ale. After 6 months we added Red Bandit, based on an old ruby ale. In early 2013 we set to work developing a brew for the Talyllyn Railway settling on a hoppy IPA, inspired by the origin of this beer which was designed to travel. With four ales and an increasing following both locally and further afield, we took the plunge and installed a larger (although still micro by commercial standards) brewery. We are now able to brew beer to fill 40 and more casks a week, and we are extending our range of ales.
